HISTORY AND ABOUT - ESTABLISHED SINCE 1998

van_pic.jpg

Charis and Nathan began catering for private events like dinner parties and barbecues when they were teenagers. As news spread of their fantastic food and great service the pair worked evenings and weekends while holding down full time jobs. Charis swapped her car for a refrigerated van and the food orders just kept coming.

The pair bought their sandwich shop in Netherton – a former butcher’s – renovated it and brought in two part-time staff. Working 17 hour days, Chef de la Maison’s great reputation began to grow, attracting a mix of corporate and private clients, many of whom still support the business today.

After moving to Canada in 2009, Nathan is still very much involved, working from overseas. Charis takes care of business development, marketing and meets existing and potential clients from her Peterborough base. The pair liaise weekly via Skype. With a committed team who are as passionate about good food Chef de la Maison remain dedicated to the future growth of the company and its number one mission – to deliver consistently fresh, fabulous, tasty food, whatever the occasion.

In March 2018 we moved from Netherton to Fengate , we outgrew Netherton some time ago and found the ideal location on Vicarage Farm Road in a building that is 3 times bigger than before. So with a blank canvas we could then design our purpose built kitchen to accommodate our Growing Business and attract New Customers. The Unit is designed with Food Safety and production in mind and is fantastic. We welcome any visitors to come and have a look around and see how we operate . There is always Fresh Coffee and Cake available.

March 2020 saw Covid-19 wipe out the hospitality industry and all our weddings and events were cancelled, all our corporate clients working from home. We like most of the UK closed during lockdown number 1 for 3 months and re-opened at the end of June 2020 after a full professional deep clean of our unit and Covid precautions and safety procedures put in place with our newly adapted boxes delivered to your door, homemade afternoon tea boxes, themed boxes, individual boxes, celebration boxes, all delivered to people at home. We have really enjoyed developing these and meeting so many new people, albeit virtually. These boxes are definitely here to stay.

CHARITY WORK

Charis and Nathan and The Team at Chef de la Maison
currently support these Charities:

This is the personal charity for Owner Charis as her Dad sadly passed away from Multiple Myeloma on 7th May 2020 and so raising awareness and money for research is what Chef de la Maison aim to continue doing . Myeloma, also known as Multiple Myeloma, is a cancer arising from Plasma Cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is the "spongy" material found in the centre of the larger bones in the body. The bone marrow is where all the blood cells are made. Myeloma is a relapsing-remitting cancer. This means there are periods when the Myeloma is causing symptoms and/or complications and needs to be treated, followed by periods of remission or plateau where the Myeloma does not cause symptoms and does not require treatment.

Chef has continued to support Myeloma UK in 2019 by doing a Skydive, Various Cake sales , Pamper Evenings , Football Raffles , Afternoon Tea vouchers giveaways – Raising in 2019 a total of £2480.60

XL Displays; Leading Manufacturers of Banner Stands have kindly provided us with a free Grasshopper Roller Banner to help us with our work in raising awareness for the Myeloma UK Charity.

Anna's Hope
Anna's Hope is the leading children's brain tumour charity in the East of England. They are committed to giving hope to children and young people diagnosed with a brain tumour.
It was inspired by Anna Olivia Hughes, who tragically died from a brain tumour aged only three years and eight months, and was set up by Anna's parents Rob and Carole Hughes and her five Godparents in October 2006.

Charis did the Great Eastern Fun Run to Raise Money and Awareness for Anna’s Hope, she did it with her 19 month old son Louie in the pouring Rain . Chef de la maison enjoy getting involved in community events such as this and the Charity is Close to our Hearts . Chef de la Maison supplied them with a Branded Anna’s Hope Cupcake for each of the competitors running the fun run and also a Large celebration cake for the Media to Enjoy. Well done everyone involved.

In 2019, Chef has supported Anna's Hope again by donating 250 cupcakes for the fun runners in the Great Eastern Run in October 2019 and also created a large celebration cake to take to the staff at Perkins and raffle off. We also donated cakes for their Mad Hatter Tea Party held at The Haycock earlier this year.

The Phoebe Research Fund
This is a Charity to fund raise for more research into "Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa". Phoebe and her mum Zoe Crowson are personal friends of Charis and this Charity is very close to our hearts at Chef de la Maison.

Cancer Research UK
Nathan has ran a few Marathons in Banff, Canada over the years to raise money for Cancer Research UK. We support Sue Ryder, Peterborough by donating many prizes for events that they run also, Little Miracles Peterborough, and Various other Charities that our customers support throughout the year.

2020-2021_finalist_bage.png

We were nominated a finalist in the 2020 Small Business Awards for Businesswoman. The awards were postponed due to covid but the ceremony was in September 2021. Charis didn’t win on this occasion but we are super proud to have been nominated in this category for Peterborough Businesswoman. It's such a great celebration of all the local small businesses and we are always proud to support them.
